Diam 24 Grand Prix Grand Case: A spectacular season opener in St. Maarten
Sint Maarten, November 12, 2025 — Eight Diam 24 teams hit the waters of Simpson Bay and Grand Case on November 8 and 9 for the first event on the 2025-2026 calendar for this exciting and competitive trimaran class.
Hosted in partnership between the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC), Saint Martin Voile Pour Tous (SMVT), and FF Voile, the inaugural Diam 24 Grand Prix Grand Case kicked off on Saturday morning, November 8, in Simpson Bay under a stiff easterly breeze of 17–22 knots.
With one reef in the mainsail, competitors got off to a roaring start on a reach, turning north at an offset mark to circle the island clockwise toward the finish line in Grand Case Bay. Making well over 10 knots of boat speed, it didn’t take them long to arrive!
After a short break to set the stadium-style course in Grand Case, the action resumed. Starting off Grand Case’s famous beach, spectators were treated to a thrilling show: tight starts, a reaching leg, followed by two upwind and downwind laps, finishing with a final reach to the line. The hallmark of Day 1 was the intensity of the competition, with hotly contested starts and mark roundings.
After four races, the eight teams were separated by only 13 points in total, with the top three sitting on tight scores of 12, 14, and 14. The stage was set for an extremely competitive second day.
In similar conditions to the previous day (still with one reef), the starts, finishes, and legs offered captivating action as teams battled for the top spots. Three buoy races were completed in the bay before the day’s penultimate event: a distance race (raid) back to Simpson Bay.
The podium In the end, Team Trinity 2 (Thomas Tennstrom, Otto Hamel, and Theodor Norrby from Sweden) took the overall victory. They were followed closely by Team Trinity 1, also from Sweden (Joakim Sunberg, Anders Lewander, and Gustav Petterson). Third place went to Team K.I.C. Krehbiel In Caribbean from St. Barths (Turtschi Noah, Renaud Nicot, and Andy Gasmin).
