The Diam 24od appeals far beyond the WDT!
While the World Diam Tour regattas and other Class events regularly make headlines, it is just as important to highlight the passion driving new Diam 24 one-design owners, both in France and internationally.
A raid in Brittany and regular outings: the Diam 24od tamed by Erwan Aubry
Based in Southern Brittany, Erwan Aubry recently joined the Diam 24od owners’ community. Enthusiastic, he shared this message after about thirty sails, including a three-day coastal raid between the islands of Hoëdic, Houat, and Belle-Île:
“This boat is truly incredible, well thought-out, and the pleasure grows with confidence. […] Lou Berthomieu sailed with me one afternoon and really appreciated the machine. […] We anchored overnight at Hoëdic, and nothing moved. The new sails are fantastic. […] Next step: sleeping onboard!”
This testimony perfectly illustrates the versatility of the Diam 24od: both a demanding racing platform and a light coastal cruising boat for sailing adventures. The topic of onboard living has even emerged among several owners—a new development avenue to explore together this winter!
Heading for adventure in North America: a Diam 24od in the Race to Alaska!
From another latitude and perspective, John Ped, a new owner of a 2015 Diam 24od based on the US East Coast, recently contacted us. His ambition? To participate in the legendary Race to Alaska (R2AK) in 2026 with his Diam 24od.
For those unfamiliar with this extraordinary race, here’s a quick overview:
The Race to Alaska is a 750-nautical-mile, engine-free, and unsupported race from Port Townsend, Washington, to Ketchikan, Alaska, passing through the wild coasts of British Columbia.
Crews must face fierce currents, unpredictable weather, and complex navigation zones—all entirely self-sufficient.
An extreme adventure, at the crossroads of racing and expedition, in which the Diam 24od may well write a new page in its history.
John naturally reached out to the Class to obtain speed polars, a tuning guide for his boat, and logistical advice to prepare for his challenge.
Tour of Île de Ré: A Diam 24od takes the win this year!
With a summery atmosphere, fresh breeze, and spirit of discovery, the brand-new Rochelais crew Sonic brilliantly completed a superb raid around Île de Ré—winning the event in the process!
Following the exciting momentum in La Rochelle—where three Diam 24s are already moored at the Minimes monotype ramp—this family crew continues to make waves. Their latest outing included sailing under the Île de Ré bridge, a run up to Ars-en-Ré, and fast legs in a dream setting.
But beyond the sporting performance, it was above all the joy of sailing and exploring new coastal spots that left a lasting impression. “It was truly a fantastic day, regularly hitting 18 knots on a course you never get tired of rediscovering. An event to do again!” smiled Maëlle Darnaude, clearly won over like the rest of the crew.
A vibrant D24od class and a fleet on the move
These three stories confirm what we see every month: the Diam 24 One Design continues to attract beyond the regular racing circuit. It offers unique sailing sensations, a robust and lightweight design, and adaptability that appeals to both competitors and adventurers alike.
Welcome to Erwan, John, and all those joining the series—your stories are also the story of the Diam 24od.
